Компания GFI сообщает о возвращении web-браузера Yap
Исследователь компании GFI сообщает о возвращении в сеть Интернет web-браузера Yap, который впервые появился в 2006 году. Изначально работа с этим браузером не вызывала никаких подозрений до тех пор, пока пользователи не начинали вводить web-адреса (любые web-адреса), в результате чего их перенаправляли на нежелательные сайты. Перенаправление пользователей на сайты, из-за просмотра контента которого они могли сесть в тюрьму, не было самым удачным способ рекламы. После этих случаев браузер исчез из сети, однако появился через несколько недель, предлагая «полную защиту от вирусных атак». Однако браузер не просуществовал долго и был уничтожен в 2006 году, после того, как его приобрела компания SearchWebMe.
Однако представитель компании GFI Кристофер Бойд (Christopher Boyd) обнаружил web-сайт, на котором пользователям предлагается установить YapBrowser. Исполняемый файл, размещенный на странице, является оригинальным файлом 2006 года с идентичным лицензионным соглашением для конечного пользователя (EULA).
Бойд отмечает, что помимо старого файла на web-сайте также содержатся обещания о высоком уровне безопасности: «Ваш компьютер будет защищен от вирусов, пока вы будете пользоваться Интернет. Мы даем 100% гарантию того, что если вы будете пользоваться нашим программным обеспечением, то ваш компьютер не будет заражен».
Исследователю из GFI не удалось установить, когда YapBrowser был восстановлен. Однако на обнаруженном сайте был найден архивный скриншот web-сайта Yapbrowser(dot)com за 2009 год.
